This year we are joined by a guest speaker we’ve requested for several years… Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards! As well as the usual mix of local and national updates around funding, guidance, health, wellbeing and of course PE, primary schools and education! There’s the fabulous Christmas themed lunch too!

Lancaster & Heysham School Sports Network – Primary Schools Sports Conference 2024

3^rd December, 8.45-4.00 @ Crooklands Hotel

Dear Colleague & Headteachers,

I am writing to invite your school to the much anticipated Lancaster & Heysham Primary Schools PE & Sport Conference 2023. This will take place on 3^rd December, 8.45-4.00 @ Crooklands Hotel, LA7 7NW. We hope to have updates on any DfE, OFSTED and PE changes as well as any important guidance from Lancashire & The Youth Sport Trust. Particular areas of focus will be good practice, physical literacy, and tackling inequalities As ever, you’re encouraged to bring an iPad/or laptop that can access the Wifi to allow you to make the most of your time in the sessions.

This conference is always a highlight of the School Sports Network. This year’s guest speaker is someone we’ve tried to get for a number of years and needs no real introduction…. Eddie the Eagle!!! Come and hear from Eddie about his exploits and experiences he went through to represent GB in the winter Olympics; a story so good they made it into a movie!

Following the updates and guest speaker we’ll move on to lunch; Always a real highlight on our post conference feedback! This year it’ll be again be Christmas lunch in the restaurant, but with even more choice (please book menu choices on Google link below), and then further training. We will also make extra time to share good practice local schools, a key aspect of this year’s conference.

This invite extends to all Lancaster and Heysham’s primary schools. Obviously an event like this carries significant costs. If you have signed up to the local School Sports Network (SSN) then you are able to send 1-2 members of staff for FREE as it was included as part of your buy-in. Please confirm no later than the 20^th November. It’s not too late to sign up the SSN if it’s of interest Tim and I are happy to discuss this with you.

An outline of the day is below and, as you’ll see, involves a fantastic mix of relevant CPD, networking, resources, a free lunch, the chance to hear an amazing speaker!

Proposed Itinerary

8.45-9.15 Registration: Arrival, Teas & Coffees.

9.15-10.15 Opening Address: A brief welcome and updates from Steven Jamieson & Tim Fletcher including information from the Youth Sport Trust and National insight.

10.15-10.50 Good practice reflection – SWOT

10.50-11.20: Break

11.20-12.35 Guest Speaker: Eddie the Eagle

12.35-12.40 School of the Year!

12.45-1.30 LUNCH (See Menu below for choices)

1.30-2.00: Lancashire PE Update

2.00-3.00 Good practice share- WWW & EBI

3.00-3.15: Break

3.15-4.00 Good Practice Share, Sum up & depart Please complete all feedback forms before leaving

Dress code is smart casual. There will be some very light activity but there will be no requirement to join in should you have any injuries.
