SUMMARY:TA & Support Staff Training-
DESCRIPTION:Having run this training several times locally (to great feedback) we will run it again in the South Lakes but is\, of course\, open to all local schools too.  Multiple staff welcome. \nPlease also see our Royal Ballet Training on 22/10/26 @ Arkholme (for PE & English leads\, or any KS1-3 teacher) \nActive Schools Support Staff Training: \nWe will cover the importance of activity for young people and some simple strategies to help other staff in school support their PE leads and whole-school approaches to getting pupils active.  These will include ideas for lunchtimes\, classrooms and clubs… and most importantly the playground!  All schools should be working towards the Chief Medical Officer’s Active 60 Minutes plan. It is a key question in your School Games Mark applications and any future Healthy Schools Ratings & fits with the new Enrichment Framework.  We will give lots of ideas and example resources. \nIt is mainly aimed at support staff (lunch/TA’s etc) but PE teachers\, or other staff\, may attend if they wish.  We hope 9.15 for 9.25 start-11.45 fits roughly between duties\, so hopefully you can send 1-4 members of staff along. Please book on! Delivered by Tim Fletcher & Steven Jamieson. \nIt is a fun active course so please wear appropriate footwear and clothing and bring a drink. You may simply watch practical activities if required. There is ample parking on the road around the school\, please arrive after 9.05 to avoid parent drop offs. on arrival please go the main reception. \nWe’ve done this for a few years and those involved have always valued the course and feedback is always brilliant!

We’re excited to confirm the campaign will return in 2027\, giving the whole school the opportunity to get active. All schools that register will receive a free trophy and brand-new downloadable resources\, including an event toolkit and some new additions to elevate the theme of ‘belonging’ across the school community. \n\nRegistrations will open in January 2027\, and schools will have until the end of May to plan and complete their event. \nLook at the Yearbook from 2026 to see how schools brought the event to life: Yearbook\n  \nPosters and info here:\nreminilondonmarathoncompetition\n  \n  \nThe Daily Mile\nThe start of a new academic year is a great time to sign up and be part of The Daily Mile. It is designed to fit naturally into the school day\, encouraging children to run\, wheel or walk at their own pace while enjoying time outdoors and making daily movement part of their everyday routine. \n  \nThere’s brand new Back to School resources with assembly slides\, activity ideas\, teacher guidance and classroom resources\, all designed to help get children moving. \n  \nTo access the resource hub\, miles tracker and other helpful tools you’ll need to create a new account through the website. Click here for more information. \nJunior parkrun\nWe are continuing to work alongside junior parkrun to provide a pathway for children and young people to be active both in and out of school\, with London Marathon Foundation providing a further £3million funding over the next five years to launch new events and grow parkrun primary. SUMMARY:SSN Glow Dodgeball Big Bash at Lancaster University
DESCRIPTION:We would like to invite your school to enter the Lancaster & Heysham SSN \n5/6/7 GLOW DODGEBALL FESTIVAL! \nThis event is scheduled at LANCASTER UNIVERSITY (not University of Cumbria)\, \n on 17th December 2026 9.45-11.30 \nThe event is back and big… in the double sportshall… in the dark! \nFull invite and info: GLOW 5\,6\,7 Dodgeball 17 DEC Lanc & Heysham \n  \nTeams: 8 on court\, Squads of 8- 10\, Years 5/6/7. Smaller schools may bring year 4s if required. \nPrimary- no minimum ratio of boy/girls\, secondary may be boys\, girls or mixed from year 7 only. \nSchools may bring 1 team and request others but last time it was full very quickly so is probably unlikely. We have a max number of 32 teams. \n  \nThis is a fun based event and we will be asking pupils to display honesty.  Those not playing a game will officiate their own games.  It is not about winning and losing- we simply want a group of pupils to come along and have fun being active\, work as a team and be with their friends and be at a bigger event again.  Because of the darkened setting\, it has been shown to be particular good for pupils who may be more self-conscious than others. \n  \nGlow dodgeball takes place in a darkened room with ultraviolet lights that cause balls and players equipment to glow!  It’s something a little different- hopefully you can pick a ‘different’ group of pupils.  Secondary schools- we’d encourage you to consider choosing pupils who have possibly struggled with transition but would benefit from a fun session with peers. \n  \nThere will not be an overall winner.  Instead we will reward schools on ‘The Spirit of the Games’ values which are Determination\, Honesty\, Teamwork\, Passion\, and Self Belief.  Hopefully it’s an opportunity for you to pick a targeted group of pupils of your choice.  On your feedback forms you suggested transition was a potential issue we hope this will help… Last year we had several Year 7 Heads of Year attend with their teams and found that very useful in building relationships; and lastly\, pupil health and wellbeing has been mentioned\, this is a chance to have fun\, be active and work as a team! Pupils not playing will also have a chance to officiate.  Please dress up in your best fluorescent clothing!! For some pictures of our previous Glow event see our social media at @LHschoolsport https://www.facebook.com/LHschoolsport \n  \nCoaches can drop off at the side of the sports centre and park on the hashed areas on that side road- please let us know how you plan to travel up prior to the day.  See the map below.  There is also additional overflow car parking at the side of the sports centre- 2 hours of parking is free\, if you arrive too early you may require £3 for the machine- we hope this is not the case but just have it in case. \n  \nEvent details are as follows: \n\nNo spectators.\nSchools encouraged to bring some team members who may have a go at officiating- We want the session to be pupils coming together\, working together\, having fun being active. Teachers may be required to plug gaps but formats will be informal- it’s fun based!\nWear any luminous clothing and/or use UV pens to draw on old clothes. All those children of the 1990s- dig out your old glow sticks and wrist bands! Fluorescent clothing and white work best. We will supply a limited amount of UV make up and glow sticks.\n\n  \n\nTeams of 8\, squads up to 10 (teams may be mixed but there are not set criteria/ratios).\nDate: 17th December; 9.45-11.30\nVenue: Lancaster University Sports Centre\nPlease don’t arrive more than 15 minutes before the start & be ready in your finest UV/glow gear!\n1 – but you may request a 2nd team (probably unlikely- book on twice if desired!)\, 1st come first served.\nPlease can schools bring their own 1st Aid kits\nWe will supply some UV gear but please can schools also be as ready as possible and perhaps bring your own too.
