From 5.00pm with local community clubs and groups showcasing things to do for families and children;  Runs start from 5.30. 

All free though donatins to St John's Hospice are encouraged.  We will also sell 'extra' paint for your own use with proceeds to the hospice.

Other paint thrown as you make your way around the course (at your own pace!).  Just have fun together!

Please wear a white t-shirt if you really want to see that paint and your own sunglasses or we will also supply sunglasses.

Please simply publicise to parents and pupils (aged 8 years+); or come as a school, it's entirely up to you.  There is no requirement for staff to be there, parents, pupils and families are our focus for this event.

The first 100 attending will also get a free family swim voucher for Salt Ayre.

5km Family Powder Paint Fun Run

When? Wednesday 8th May 2024

What Time? 5pm to 7pm (Races to start from 5:30pm)

Where? University of Cumbria Sports Complex, Bowerham Road, Lancaster, LA1 3JD

Cost: FREE (Charitable donations available on the day)

Event Description: This event aims to promote health and wellbeing, social interaction, and engagement within the local community. We are aiming to build confidence in children and help to provide them with exit routes into sport. We also want to promote the importance of sport and recognise its value in society.

Directions & Parking Information: Drive into the entrance on Bowerham Rd, follow the road and turn left soon after passing the nursery, follow that road up the curved steep hill and you will find the car park which will be on the right-hand side. Event parking is free at the main university car park. After parking, follow the footpath along the AstroTurf pitch and you will reach the complex. Please do NOT attempt to reach the sports complex driving via the Wyresdale road entrance.

What to wear: Please wear appropriate sportswear and trainers, white t-shirts may be preferable to make the powder paint ‘POP’.

Businesses and clubs: Local sports clubs and businesses will be hosting stalls for you to come and have a look at, they will be promoting their services and offering opportunities to families in the local community from 5pm onwards.       

Provisions: Sunglasses will be provided for the event to protect your eyes from the powder paint, changing facilities and toilets are available at the sports complex.

The route:  The fun run will consist of two laps making up a 5km route (2.5km per lap) across the campus. Marshals will be positioned around the route to ensure you do not lose your way and can successfully reach the finish. We want the event to be accessible to as many people as possible, therefore, you can walk the entire route. You also have the option to run/walk either 1 lap (2.5km) or 2 laps (5km). Please note, walking 2 laps could take up to 1 hour.

Activities: Before the fun run starts, Olympic themed activities will take place, you can have a go at archery, boccia, bean bag throw and more...

Event purchases: Powder paint packets will be available to purchase at the event for a cost of £1 per packet with 7 colours available. You can also purchase coloured hair spray, and to go and use a wash down station at the end of the event (bring a towel/change of clothes if you wish to do this).
