BLS: Heysham & Lancaster SG Tri-Golf Champs
Congratulations to Bolton le Sands who won the Heysham and Lancaster District Year 3/4 Tri-Golf School Games Qualifier hosted at Heysham Golf Club, utilising their awesome short game facilities. A brilliant 9 schools competed from across the Heysham and Lancaster areas, thats around 90+ participants all trying to qualify for the Lancashire School Games event in July, with the highest placed Heysham school and the highest placed Lancaster school going forward to represent their area.
This event was delivered by University of Cumbria Third Year students as part of their degree, in particular, the events module. Not only did they organise and deliver a fantastic event, they worked with Andy Leigh (Golf Foundation), Heysham Golf Club Pro's - Ryan and Trevor, plus Golf coaches from Myerscough College, who delivered the coaching section of the event and scored the activities. They also raised money for Derian House Children's Hospice, which is a very worthy cause.
The teams arrived and enjoyed some warm up games, then went off to get some golf lessons delivered by Myerscough students. Then it was time for the competition. Each team had 5 minutes per activity, to generate as many points as possible on the chipping or putting games. There were 10 different activities, with teams rotating around each one.
The standard was very high, and all schools competed fantastically well. Thank you to the following schools, who all got involved, and inlcudes the results:
- Bolton le Sands - 850 points
- Moorside - 707 points
- Grosvenor Park - 693 points
- St Peters - 670 points
- North Road - 591 points
- Ryelands - 585 points
- Arkholme - 565 points
- Westgate - 520 points
- West End - 517 points
Special mention to Moorside who came second in the event and was the highest placed Lancaster area school and will join BLS at the Lancashire School Games event. Both will be excellent representatives for Team Heysham and Team Lancaster. Well done to Grosvenor Park who managed 3rd place.
