The FA Shooting Stars programme inspired by Disney is made up of two initiatives; Active Play Through Storytelling and Girls’ Football Clubs, both have been developed to support the engagement of girls aged 5-11 years old in sport at school and in the home.
Active Play through Storytelling uses the inspiration of engaging, memorable and familiar Disney stories to ‘lose girls in play’ leading to them work harder and increasing their heart rates. The girls become active through undertaking thoughtfully designed activities as part of the story which focus on developing their fundamental movement skills and having fun.
Girls’ Football Clubs inspired by Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy uses super-human powers, high-tech gadgets and super-heroes to truly capture the imagination of primary age girls. It uses stories to inspire girls to get active and engage in sport with their friends with the sessions aiming to support girls’ in their physical development and introduce them to football, whilst developing their leadership skills. All activities are age-appropriate and designed to provide girls with a positive introduction to sport. For full programme information please see here.
