Two Times in a row for Slyne with Hest Girls

Congratulations to Slyne with Hest who were crowned 2019 Lancaster & Heysham District Girls Football Champions yesterday - winning for the second year in a row.

In addition to this, last year we had 6 teams competing, this year we had 19 teams from 14 different schools involved in what was a fantastic tournament.  Schools involved included:

• Bowerham
• Trumacar
• Willow Lane
• Lancaster Road
• Grosvenor Park
• St Peters
• Ryelands
• Nether Kellet
• Quernmore
• Bolton le Sands
• St Patricks
• Westgate
• Greatwood

Special thanks to Lancaster & Morecambe College for hosting the event and providing excellent referees and event leaders from LMC sports courses delivered by Nick Milner and Barry Robson.

The event itself was groups stages, top two going through from each group and playing in the knockout rounds, which saw Greatwood v Slyne (Heysham area) and Bowerham v Ryelands (Lancaster area) competing in the semi finals, after making it through the Quarter finals.

Bowerham v Ryelands was a very close game ending in a 0-0 score and even Golden Goal could not separate the teams.  Bowerham qualified for the final via a penalty shootout with Ryelands playing in the Bronze Medal match.

Slyne v Greatwood also went to penalties, with a final score of 1-1.  Greatwood were unlucky not to go through after a 20 yard thunder bolt from their 'Player of the Tournment' midfielder, which unlukily crashed off the crossbar.  Slyne though, kept their nerve in the shootout and were victorias and set up a District Final with Bowerham.

Well done to Greatwood who managed to beat Ryelands 4-1 in the Bronze medal match, securing the medals, well done too, to Ryelands who had a fantastic tournament, manging 4th Place.

In the final, both teams tried their hardest, but it was Slyne who manged to win with a 2-0 scoreline, making them the 2019 District Football Champions.  Slyne with Hest (Heysham) and Bowerham (Lancaster) will represent our areas at the Primary Girls County Football Tournament in January.
